Growing minds in Eaglesham thanks to East Renfrewshire Climate Action Hub Support
Member Spotlight: Eaglesham Community Garden is a volunteer-led space that brings people together to grow food, share skills, and tackle loneliness in the local area.
We spoke with garden coordinator Sandra to learn how £500 from the East Renfrewshire Climate Action Hub helped the garden educate local children about growing and sustainability through hands-on learning.

Tell us about the Eaglesham Community Garden
Sandra McLintock: This community garden started in 2022. It was handed over by another group within the village and now we grow vegetables, fruit and flowers. The vegetables that we grow, we give over to the Eaglesham and Waterfoot Community Larder. The people that we help need the fruit and vegetables and they really appreciate it. We also won a Keep Scotland Beautiful award last year and this year and we’ve gone up to level five which is outstanding – it’s the top level; you can’t get any higher than that.
How important is the garden for volunteers?
Sandra McLintock: A lot of them live by themselves and they make new friendships, make new pals and they go out and have a coffee after being in the garden – they might never have thought of that beforehand.
How is the East Renfrewshire Climate Action Hub helping?
Sandra McLintock: I’ve been to meetings and met a lot of nice people. They’re great to chat to and give you a lot of advice and confidence to get on with stuff.
What’s been achieved with climate action hub funding?
Sandra McLintock: We got £500, and we managed to get nursery kids to come out and sow seeds and plant. They also coloured in stones which we’ve now got evidence of – they loved it. We managed to get lots of children’s versions of tools – trowels, tubs, the stones – it was just lovely.
